The Elizabethtown Japanese School (EJS) was established in 1987 for the purpose of educating children in the language of Japanese. The school is held on Saturdays so as not to interfere with students' normal school schedule. Over the years an increase in investment by Japanese companies has brought a growing number of Japanese families into this area. Several Japanese companies in the surrounding area have joined with EJS to ensure the children of their employees from 1st grade to 12th grade receive the education they will need when they return to their home country of Japan. Although most students are Japanese nationals, EJS welcomes any students who are interested in learning the Japanese language.
The Japanese School located on our campus was registered as a Kentucky based non-profit organization in 1989 and obtains a great deal of funding from Japanese companies. At the same time, EJS also became a program offering at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College and receives support from ECTC, as well as the Japanese Ministry of Education, Consulate-General of Japan and the Japanese Overseas Children Education Foundation.
