KET CLASSES ECTC has offered classes to students via distance learning for many years. Through a partnership with Kentucky Educational Television (KET) and other colleges and universities across the state, we have been able to offer Telecourses since the 1970's. KET broadcasts the Telecourses on their statewide network and the students view the programs at home. An ECTC instructor serves as the course facilitator for ECTC enrolled students. Some instructors may require the students to come to campus for orientation sessions and testing. Some instructors may provide some materials and interaction through BlackBoard. Students Best Suited for Telecourses Telecourses are almost like independent study. For a student to be successful in a Telecourse, they would need to be able to work on their own, without the constant guidance of an instructor or the network support of other students. A Telecourse student should be highly motivated, disciplined and task/deadline oriented. Telecourses are not "bunny" courses. They are just as demanding and time consuming as the regular campus classes, if not more so. The advantage of the Telecourse is the ability to take the class at home or work or even to videotape the class for viewing at the student's convenience. Check for KET classes on the ECTC Online Schedule Please note that KET is broadcasting the telecourse programs during the overnight hours. The times listed are A.M. Textbook Information Textbooks are required in all classes. Some classes also require additional study guides or workbooks. This information will be included in the syllabus. Books are available at the ECTC Bookstore. Books should be purchased prior to the start of class. Broadcast of Classes Classes are broadcast at the specified day and time on your local KET channel. (NOTE: Telecourses are not available on KET2.) The antenna channel in the E-town and surrounding area is channel 23. The cable channel in E-town is channel 9. Check your local listings for areas other than E-town. Local channels may not be available on digital satellites. Some classes may be available on the PBS channel on digital or analog satellite systems. Check with your digital or analog satellite provider for availability and schedule. Most courses are also streamed on the computer by KET. Videotaping of Classes You may videotape your class for viewing later. It is illegal to sell videotaped copies of KET Telecourses. ECTC has permission from KET to keep copies of the Telecourses in the ECTC library and other locations for you to view, should you miss a broadcast. These tapes may not be checked out. It is your responsibility to view or videotape the class when it is broadcast. Do not depend on the library tapes being available consistently.
