The computer aided drafting program is designed to provide instruction in the fundamental knowledge, skills, and understanding of mechanical design and drawing. Computers are used to teach the concepts of advanced design, dimensioning, and modeling using various computer aided drafting programs. Drafting is "the graphic language" used in industry to communicate ideas and concepts.
Since drafting techniques are universal worldwide, students will learn applications which can be readily adapted to a wide variety of manufacturing and production. Students are encouraged to use their creativity in transforming ideas into rough sketches and eventually into complete and precise drawings. These acquired drafting talents act as a catalyst in the production of drawings which could be used by skilled CAD drafters to modify equipment, design criteria to manufacture products, build structures, develop products, create 3D models and bring new inventions from the computer to the market place.
Employment opportunities are favorable since increasing complexity of design in modern products will require highly skilled technicians. Jobs are available in manufacturing and in the private sectors.
