The welding program provides training in both the art and science of metal joining technologies. The curriculum includes classroom instruction as well as lab instruction and experience. Welding and cutting equipment, blueprint reading, and welding technology is taught as well as welding certification, materials technology, and welding quality control.
The program provides training to earn certificates and begin employment in as little as one semester and takes only four semesters to complete an Associate of Applied Technology (AAT) degree. The program offers Certificate, Diploma, and Associate Degree completion levels. All AAT degree coursework will apply toward a Bachelors of Science in Applied Technology degree. The associate degree in welding consists of 15 hours of general education at Elizabethtown Community College. They may be taken prior to entry into the program or during enrollment in the program.
The program offers welder certifications through the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, state certifications through the Kentucky Department of Transportation and national certification through the American Welding Society. Other certifications offered include the National Entry Level Welder and the Master Welder certifications. Elizabethtown Technical College is one of only 58 American Welding Society accredited testing facilities in the world.
