Submissions are now being accepted for the 2008 Joy Bale Boone Poetry Prize. First prize is $200.00. Second prize is $100.00. 3rd prize is $75.00. First, second and third place winners will also be published in the Summer 2008 issue of the Heartland Review.
The judge for this year's contest will be Kathleen Driskell, Associate Program Director of Spalding University's Brief-residency MFA program. Driskell has published a full-length book of poems, Laughing Sickness (Fleur-de-Lis Press, 1999,) which is in its second printing, and Place Gives Rise to Spirit Writers on Louisville (Fleur-de-Lis Press, 2001), an anthology she edited as a fundraising project for the Kentucky Writer's Coalition, a non-profit statewide writer's organization she helped to found in 1996. She has published poems or has work forthcoming nationally in literary magazines such as the Southern Review, the American Voice, New Millennium Writings, the Connecticut Review, GulfStream, Hayden's Ferry Review, the Greensboro Review, and Mid-American Review.
The entry fee for the first poem submitted is $5.00. Each additional poem carries an additional entry fee of $3.00. Please make checks out to The Heartland Review.
Send a cover letter with name and address and a short bio along with your entries and check. Name and address should NOT appear on poems. Poems should be typed and should be no longer than 30 lines.
Post mark deadlines for entries is February 15, 2008. Winners will be announced in April and will be invited to read at the Morrison Gallery Poetry Month Celebration. Send SASE for results. Mail entries to:
