You can search the EBSCO databases from any personal computer with Internet access. If you are using the library or campus lab computers you will need to log on with your KCTCS email user ID and password.
The EBSCO databases may be accessed at the following URL: http://search.ebscohost.com
If you are searching away from the main campus, a screen will appear asking for a userid and password. Type the userid and password (available from your instructor or from your local library) into the appropriate fields and hit the ENTER key.
NOTE: If you are searching from any computer on the main campus, you will not see the userid and password screen.
The following screen will appear:

The screen will display the titles of all EBSCO databases, along with a brief description.
Click on the title of the database you wish to search. If you wish to search more than one database, click in the box to the left of each database title you wish to search. Click on the Continue icon.
When you click on a database title, the screen will display the following:

Type your search terms in the blank box next to FIND and click on SEARCH. You can combine terms with AND, OR and NOT. Example: lung AND cancer AND smoking.
The screen should display a list of article titles. If you wish to look at a particular article, note whether it is available in the database as a full text article. If it is, the phrase Full Text will appear below the article title. You can then click on the article title in order to download the entire article to your screen.
If the phrase Full Text does NOT appear, click here to see if the library carries the magazine or journal. If the library does not carry it, you may still request the article via Interlibrary Loan.
You can also click on the ADD icon to the right of an article citation, and add it to your folder. When you are ready to print or email your articles, simply click on the folder and click on Print or Email.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you want to redo your search, be sure and click on the phrase New Search. If you click on the Back key, you will lose the contents of your folder.
If you wish to limit your search to complete articles only, click on the box next to the words Full Text near the bottom of the search screen.
If you wish to limit your search to a particular magazine or journal, type the magazine title in the blank field next to the word Publication on the search screen.
The screen capture below shows the title of the magazine Newsweek in the Publication field.

Click in the box next to the words Scholarly (Peer-Reviewed) Journals until a check appears.

You may use this option to limit keywords to specific fields, such as the title, author, subject or abstract. In order to use this option, you must click on the Advanced Search tab. Click in each of the blank search fields and type in a keyword. Click on the down arrow next to each search field in order to pull up the drop down menu. Click on the field in which you want your search term to appear. Click on the SEARCH button.
This is what the Advanced Search screen looks like...
