Main Campus Library Borrowing Privileges

You must have a current library card in order to check out materials. If you do not have one, you may get one at the main campus circulation desk. You may choose to have your card stored behind the circulation desk.

Faculty may check circulating materials out for 12 weeks. Reference materials may be checked out for a period of three days. Videos may be checked out for a period of one week. Renewals may be made by phone; however, renewals will not be granted if another faculty member has requested the item for classroom use. No renewals on reference materials or periodicals.

KCTCS email required to log on to main campus or Fort Knox computers

Please inform your students of the need to set up KCTCS email accounts. They (and you!) will need these accounts  if they wish to use any of the main campus or Fort Knox computer workstations. All students and instructors will also need the email logon information in order to access the subscription magazine, book and newspaper databases. Students can set up their  email at any off-campus computer with Internet access by going to the following URL: https://webmail.kctcs.edu. If you are a part-time instructor and have not yet set up your email, please contact Ron Dickerson at 706-8570.

Database logon procedures

netLibrary, EBSCO, Gale, CQResearcher, and NewsBank are all database collections that contain the complete text of hundreds of thousands of magazine, journal, and newspaper articles and published books. The databases can be accessed from home using the KCTCS email logon user IDs and passwords.

To search a database, go to the library home page. Look for the title of the appropriate database under Quick Links. Do NOT click on the title of the database. Click on the off-campus users link next to the title of the database you wish to search. You will pull up the gateway screen to the library proxy server. The screen will prompt you to enter a user ID and a password. Type in your KCTCS email user ID and password. You will then enter into the database as if you were searching from the main campus.

Tours

At this time we can only offer tours on-campus. Evening and weekend classes will be accommodated, although dates will depend on the availability of the librarians. You are advised to schedule such tours well in advance. Daytime tours should be scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. Please call the library at x68812 or email Laurie MacKellar in order to schedule tours. If it is not feasible for you to schedule a tour during class time, direct your students to the  Virtual Library Tour and the Research Basics site.

We do not conduct library tours for individuals. We do provide assistance with specific research projects, and will direct students to resources appropriate for their projects, providing instruction in the use of those resources as necessary.
